IVs, EVs, natures and breeding

The stat systems behind competitive Cobblemon: IVs, EVs, natures, friendship and how breeding passes them down.

These work the same way as the mainline Pokemon games. They barely matter while you are levelling, and they matter enormously in ranked battling.

IVs

Individual Values are fixed per-Pokemon stat values from 0 to 31, rolled when the Pokemon spawns. You cannot train them. "Perfect IVs" means 31 in a stat, and a 6IV Pokemon has 31 across the board. Breeding is how you improve them.

EVs

Effort Values are trainable points earned by defeating specific Pokemon. They are capped per stat and in total, so you must choose which two or three stats to invest in. Power items and Macho Brace speed up EV training; vitamins and feathers add EVs directly.

Natures

A nature raises one stat by 10 percent and lowers another. Getting the right nature is often a bigger practical upgrade than perfect IVs. A parent holding an Everstone passes its nature to the offspring, which is how you lock a nature in.

Breeding

  • Place two compatible Pokemon in a pasture block to produce eggs.
  • Destiny Knot passes down five IVs from the parents instead of three.
  • Ditto breeds with almost every breedable species, making it the most valuable breeding partner in the game.
  • Egg moves pass down from the parents, letting you get moves a species cannot learn by levelling.
  • TalonMC applies server-side breeding restrictions, so check current in-game rules before a long project.

Friendship

Raised by walking with a Pokemon, levelling up, vitamins, a Soothe Bell, and Friend or Luxury Balls. Some species only evolve at high friendship.
