Shiny hunting FAQ

What are the shiny odds in Cobblemon?

Cobblemon uses a base shiny rate of 1 in 8,192, the classic pre-Gen 6 rate rather than the 1 in 4096 of modern games. Server owners can and often do change it, so set the base rate above to whatever your server advertises.

Does a Shiny Charm exist in Cobblemon?

Not in the base mod. Servers add their own version, usually as extra rolls per encounter. Two extra rolls takes you from 1 in 8,192 to roughly 1 in 2,731.

Do shiny odds reset if I log off?

Yes, and this matters. Each encounter is an independent roll, so being 5,000 encounters deep does not make the next one more likely. There is no pity counter in Cobblemon.

How long does a shiny hunt actually take?

At the base rate and roughly 12 seconds per encounter, half of hunters find one inside about 19 hours and 90 percent inside about 63 hours. Those are brutal numbers, which is why most people hunt on servers with boosted rates or during shiny events.
